SONNY WILLIAMS faces an uphill task en route to his second title in the 2020 Shell Tranquillity Open tennis tournament, as he squares off against top seed Richard McLetchie in the veterans singles final on Sunday from 3 pm, at the Tranquillity Tennis Courts, Port of Spain.

Sunday will mark the final day of this tournament, which resumed last Friday after a ten-month delay due to the covid19 lockdown. Williams will be chasing another coveted crown while senior veterans singles top seed Athelstan Phillips lines up against second ranked Garry Siewdass in the title match.

In Saturday’s veterans singles semi-finals, Williams had to dig deep to get past Rawle Boyce. Having won the opening set 6-3, Williams battled to a nervy 7-6(5) win in the second to seal his title shot. Mc Letchie, however, advanced via walkover against Ricky Villaroel.

In the senior veterans singles semi-finals, Phillips cruised past Michael Pemberton 6-1, 6-0 while Siewdass defeated Ken Aberdeen 6-2, 6-1.

On Friday, Williams joined forces with Farid Youssef to capture the veterans doubles title.

Sundays’ finals will each serve off from 3 pm.
