St Andrew native King Calie has won a spot in the final of Magnum Top Performa’s competition after edging out Tatik in the first semi-final.
Pleased with his efforts and grateful for his supporters, King Calie declared this has not been an easy feat.
“This industry requires nerves of steel. This week of voting was particularly challenging, round two was no pushover but we had to call in the cavalry on this one. [It was] nail-biting but in the end hard work paid off, both on the stage and in the field. Endless gratitude to all who are in support of King Calie,” said King Calie.
The up-and-coming artiste, whose given name is Dwight Gutzmer, shared that he pursued music after moving to The Bahamas at age 14. While there, he said that students in his class felt that all Jamaicans are born artistes so they tutored him to sing.
Having made it to the final of the competition, King Calie is closer to the grand prize of $1 million and a music video and song produced by Romeich. His opponent in the money round will be known following today’s second semi-final, which will feature Prince Saj and Jase.
