WEST INDIES Women could not make it three wins straight in the 2022 International Cricket Council Women’s World Cup, falling to a 155-run defeat to India at Seddon Park in Hamilton, New Zealand, on Saturday.
India compiled a massive 317/8 in 50 overs batting first with two batters scoring centuries.
After a blistering start, West Indies fought back and India were reduced to 78/3 in the 14th over.
Opener Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur then took the match away from West Indies with a 184-run fourth wicket partnership.
Mandhana, who fell with the score on 262 in the 43rd over, was dismissed by fast bowler Shamilia Connell for 123.
Her 119-ball innings included 13 fours and two sixes.
Kaur, who steered India past 300, was out for 109 off 107 deliveries. She struck ten fours and two sixes.
Off spinner Anisa Mohammed grabbed 2/59 in nine overs for West Indies.
The regional team made a brisk start as openers Deandra Dottin and Hayley Matthews put on 100 runs inside 13 overs.
However, when Dottin fell a collapse followed and West Indies were all out for 162 in 40.3 overs.
Dottin top scored with 62 off 46 balls, a knock including ten fours and one six. Matthews contributed 43 off 36 deliveries.
Captain Stafanie Taylor, one of the leading women’s batters in the world, only scored one.
Taylor has had a modest tournament with scores of 30, duck and one.
Sneh Rana took 3/22 in 9.3 overs and Meghna Singh grabbed 2/27 in six overs.
West Indies now have two wins and one loss to start the tournament. West Indies, now fifth in the eight-team standings, will face second-placed Australia on Monday from 6 pm, TT time.
The top four teams will advance to the semifinals following the round robin phase.
