Known for their interpretations of John Holt’s classic hits, when the legend’s son Junior Holt and grandson Bamm Holt take the stage at Rebel Salute on Saturday, they are promising a mix of vintage and new songs.

“It’s a great feeling. Mi father was on it di year before him pass, so it’s great to keep di fire blazing,” said Junior Holt, the son of John, who died in 2014 at age 67. The past three years have seen Junior and Bamm Holt putting a contemporary spin on several of Holt Senior’s classic singles to maintain interest in his hefty catalogue. Those include Police in Helicopter and Tribal War. This year, they plan to sing a different tune, and the duo are determined to show their original side in 2023.

“A show like Rebel Salute can mek people know is not only John Holt song wi can do. Wi soun’ jus’ as good singing originals,” Holt stated.

John Holt is arguably reggae’s most influential vocalist. Dennis Brown, Gregory Isaacs and Beres Hammond are just some of the greats who have cited him as a major influence.

He left a cache of hit songs from his days with The Paragons, with whom he did Wear You to The Ball, On The Beach and Only A Smile.

As a solo act, his hits included Stick by Me, Stranger in Love and Help Me Make It Through The Night.
